Charles A. Hill

Charles Augustus Hill (born 23 August 1833 in Truxton, Cortland County, New York, † May 29, 1902 in Joliet, Illinois ) was an American politician of the Republican Party, which was representative of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives short time.

Biography

After attending schools in Griffins Mills, Hamburg and in Will County, he attended the 1856 Bell's Commercial College in Chicago, before he then studied law. After he was first admitted to the bar in Indianapolis, he returned in 1860 back to Will County and took a job there as well as a lawyer on.

In August 1862 he volunteered during the American Civil War for military service with the F- company of the 8th regiment of volunteer cavalry of Illinois (Illinois Volunteer Cavalry ). Later, he was first and then promoted Lieutenant 1865 Captain of Company C, 1st Regiment of the U.S. Colored Troops. After the war he returned to Will County and opened a law office in Joliet. In between, he was from 1868 to 1872 Attorney ( Prosecuting Attorney ) for Will County and Grundy County.

In 1889 he was elected as a Republican candidate for member of the U.S. House of Representatives and represented there from March 4, 1889 until March 3, 1891 the 8th Congressional District of Illinois, but was defeated in the elections for the 52nd U.S. Congress to the Democrats Lewis Steward.

After a subsequent retry career as a lawyer in Joliet he was most recently 1897-1900 Assistant to the Attorney General of Illinois ( Assistant Attorney General ).
