Charles A. Whitten Medal

The Charles A. Whitten Medal is a prize in Geophysics at the American Geophysical Union ( AGU). It is in honor of geodesics Charles A. Whitten (1909-1994) by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey assigned, who was from 1968 to 1974 Secretary General of the AGU. It is awarded every two years since 1985 for outstanding achievements for the study of the shape and dynamics of the Earth and the planets. The first winner was Whitten.
