Charles (archbishop of Mainz)

Charles of Aquitaine (* probably 825/830; † June 4 863) was Archbishop of Mainz from 856 to 863

He was the second son of King Pippin I of Aquitaine and his wife Rings. He fell 849 into the hands of Charles the Bald and spent the years 851-854 in the monastery, from which he was finally able to escape. On March 6, 856, he was appointed the German Archbishop of Mainz from Ludwig. Charles was buried in the monastery of St. Alban in front of Mainz.
