Charles Bally

Charles Bally ( born February 4, 1865 in Geneva, † April 10, 1947 ) was a Swiss linguist. He was a pupil of Ferdinand de Saussure and belonged to the substantiated by the structuralist Geneva School.

Work

Bally also played an important role in the edition of Saussure's Cours de linguistique générale 's epoch. A critical analysis of this work has shown that parts do not come from Saussure himself, but rather from the block being edited pupils Bally and Albert Sechehaye and possibly more likely to reflect their thinking than that of Saussure.

Bally dealt in his own work with questions of style, especially the French, and developed Saussure Arbitraritätsbegriff on.
