Charles Barwig

Charles Barwig ( born March 19, 1837 Grand Duchy of Hesse, † February 15, 1912 in Mayville, Wisconsin ) was an American politician of German origin. Between 1889 and 1895 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1845, Charles Barwig came with his parents to the United States, where the family settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Territory. He attended the public schools of his new home and then to 1857 the Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee. In the following years he worked in the legal trade in alcohol. Since 1865 he has been resident in Maysville. There, he served from 1886 to 1888 as mayor.

Politically Barwig member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1888 he was in the second electoral district of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Richard W. Guenther on March 4, 1889. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1895 three legislative periods. Between 1889 and 1891 Barwig was chairman of the committee responsible for supervising the expenditure of the Ministry of Finance.

In the elections of 1894 Barwig defeated Republican Edward Sauerhering. After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives, he went into the real estate business. He died on February 15, 1912 in Mayville.
