Charles Bennett (screenwriter)

Charles Bennett ( born August 2, 1899 in Shoreham- by-Sea, Sussex, England; † June 15, 1995 in Los Angeles ) was an English playwright and screenwriter, who is best known for his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock.

Life

After his military service in World War I. Bennett worked as an actor and writer before he started in the 20s to write plays. His piece Blackmail was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1929 under the same name. His collaboration with Hitchcock peaked mid 30 's, when Bennett the screenplays for five very successful Hitchcock thrillers wrote: The Man Who Knew Too Much, The 39 Steps, Secret Agent, Sabotage and young and innocent.

Bennett left England in 1940 to the foreign correspondent to work in America with Hitchcock at the second American film. For this purpose, 1941, he was nominated for an Oscar. He remained in Hollywood, where he wrote many screenplays and also in two movies directed: The rival (1949) and Innocent hunted ( 1953). Later he worked for the U.S. television and wrote screenplays for television series. So he worked in 1954 to Casino Royale, the first James Bond film with.
