Charles "Bobo" Shaw

Charles " Bobo " Shaw ( born September 5, 1947 Pope County, Minnesota) is an American jazz drummer and bandleader.

Shaw studied percussion at Ben Thigpen and played occasional trombone and bass. He was one of the early 1960s, the founders of the Black Artist Group in St. Louis. In addition, he worked among others with Lester Bowie, Frank Lowe, Hamiet Bluiett, and Oliver Lake. Later in the 1960s, Shaw played in Paris free jazz with Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Frank Wright, Alan Silva and Michel Portal.

In 1971, he took with Oliver Lake on in St. Louis. The mid-1970s, he founded the Human Arts Ensemble, the recordings Lake, Lester and Joseph Bowie, Julius Hemphill and others grossed. In 1976 he participated in the Wildflowers sessions; In the late 1970s he toured with the Human Arts Ensemble through Europe. In the 1980s he worked with Billy Bang.
