Charles Brackeen

Charles Brackeen ( born March 13, 1940 in Oklahoma) is an American jazz saxophonist ( tenor and soprano saxophone).

Life

Brackeen played at the beginning of his musical career violin and piano before switching to the saxophone. He commuted between California and the East Coast before settling in New York City. In 1968, he put his debut album Rhythm X with Don Cherry, Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell ago as sidemen; In 1974, he played a another album under his own name. He also participated in recordings of the Jazz Composer's Orchestra, Don Cherry (1973 ), Leroy Jenkins (1975 ), Wildflowers Loft Sessions (1976 ), Paul Motian ( 1977-79 ) and Ronald Shannon Jackson's " Decoding Society " (1980 / 81), but then played until 1987, no further recordings. With his own quartet in 1995 was the album Worshippers Come Nigh. Brackeen also worked with Dennis González, Ronnie Boykins and Ahmed Abdullah. Charles Brackeen was married to pianist Joanne Brackeen.
