Charles Bradley (singer)

Charles Bradley ( born November 5, 1948 in Gainesville, Florida) is an American soul singer.

Life

Charles Bradley grew up in poverty in New York City borough of Brooklyn. In Bar Harbor, Maine, he learned the trade of cook. Later he became a chef in a psychiatric hospital in Wassaic, New York. He spent the next 17 years as a chef in California. During all this time he stepped up to his work on a small scale as a singer in various bands in appearance.

After several strokes of fate, he gave up his learned profession, returned to New York and devoted himself entirely to music. In local clubs in Brooklyn, he performed under the name " Black Velvet" in a James Brown tribute show on. There he was discovered by an employee of the small, specialized on retro - soul record label Daptone Records. In 2002 he released Bradley's first single.

In early 2011 came out his late debut album No Time For Dreaming. In the summer after, Bradley embarked on an extensive tour through Europe and the United States, where he appeared among others at Roskilde Festival in Denmark and at the Vienna Jazz Festival.

Charles Bradley, to whom the epithet " The Screaming Eagle of Soul" was awarded, is compared to soul greats like James Brown, Otis Redding and James Carr.
