Charles Buls

Karel Frans Gommaar (Fr. Charles François Gommaire ) Buls ( born October 13, 1837 in Brussels, † July 13, 1914 in Elsene ) was a Belgian politician.

Buls studied law, became a lawyer and devoted himself with great zeal to the cause of public instruction. He was a member and president of the association Ligue Belge de l' enseignement and wrote: Une excursion scolaire à Londres ( Brussels, 1872); Vienne en 1873 (1874); La secularisation de l' enseignement (1876 ), etc. From 1881 to 1899 he was mayor of Brussels, 1882-1884 and 1886-1894 Liberal member of the Chamber. He sat down heavily on the equality of the Dutch language in Belgium.
