Charles Butterworth (actor)

Charles Butterworth ( born July 26, 1896 in South Bend, Indiana, † June 14, 1946 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American film actor and Broadway performer.

Life

Charles Butterworth studied at the Notre Dame Law School, Law, and then switch to the field of journalism. Briefly, he worked as a journalist. He first came to prominence as Broadway actors a name and starred in productions such as Allez Oop (1927 ), Good Boy (1928 ), or Sweet Adeline (1929 ), which made ​​him a major theater performer. In 1929 he made ​​his film debut in 1930 and made his breakthrough with The Life of the Party. From then played Butterworth larger roles, mostly he played the rather comical friend of the main character. He took some time with Natalie Schafer a relationship. Close friends of him were Corey Ford and the humorist Robert Benchley. 1946 Butterworth died in a car accident.
