Charles Christopher, Duke of Münsterberg

Karl Christoph von Münsterberg (also Karl Christoph von Podiebrad; Czech Karel Kristof z Minstrberka; May 22nd 1545 oil; † March 17, 1569 ibid ) was 1565-1569 Duke of Münsterberg. He was also Count of Glatz.

Life

Karl Christoph Berger family came from the Munster branch of the Bohemian noble family Podiebrad. His parents were Johann von Münsterberg and Oels and his first wife Catherine of Christina Schidlowitz ( Kristyna Katarzyna Szydłowiecka; 1519-1556 ).

1558 Karl Christoph took an educational trip through Europe and stayed then at the court of Emperor Ferdinand I.. After the death of his father, ( † 1580 ), a daughter of Prince Henry II of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel was married in 1561 to his second wife Margaret, Karl Christoph inherited in February 1565, the Duchy of Münsterberg. The Duchy Oels inherited Karl Christoph's cousin Charles II, the Duchy of Bernstadt his brother Henry III. Like his father and his brothers supported Karl Christoph in his domain the Reformation. 1567 Catholic worship was set in the Munster Berger Peter and Paul's Church.

Karl Christoph was not married and died after a short reign of only four years ago at the age of 24 years. With it, the era of the house Podiebrad in Münsterberg, which fell as a completed fief to the crown of Bohemia ended. The surviving members of the House and our successors Podiebrad allowed the title of Duke of Münsterberg to their extinction lead in the male line in 1647.

Ten years after Karl Christoph's death donated his cousin Barbara of Bieberstein for Oelser Castle Church an epitaph of marble, probably Hans Fleiser called Gruyter, created. It shows Duke Karl Christoph in knight's armor.
