Charles Dancla

Jean Baptiste Charles Dancla ( born December 19, 1817 in Bagneres -de- Bigorre, † October 10, 1907 in Tunis ) was a French violinist and composer.

Biography

First received instruction Dancla with a violin teacher in his hometown. At the age of nine years it the violinist Pierre Rode heard in Bordeaux; This was so impressed that he sent a letter to Pierre Baillot, Luigi Cherubini and Rodolphe Kreutzer. So Dancla student was at the Paris Conservatoire at Baillot for violin and at the opera composer Jacques Fromental Halévy for composition. He was strongly influenced by Niccolò Paganini, whom he was able to experience in 1830, as well as by Henri Vieuxtemps. From 1835, he was solo violinist in the Paris Opera, and shortly afterwards he became concert master at the " Concerts du Conservatoire ". In 1857 he became professor at the Paris Conservatoire, where he was a successful teacher over 35 years.

With his siblings Dancla Arnaud (1819-1862), author of a well-known cellist and cello teaching method, Dancla Leopold (1822-1895), violinist and composer of chamber music and the pianist Laure Dancla - Déliphard he gave regular chamber music soirees. In his possession were four Stradivariusgeigen, later nicknamed " Dancla " received.
