Charles Downing

Charles Downing (* in Virginia, † 1845 in St. Augustine, Florida ) was an American politician. Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the Florida Territory as a delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

The date of birth and the exact birthplace of Charles Downing are as unknown as his exact date of death. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in his new job in St. Augustine in Florida territory. In 1837 he joined the Territorial Government.

In the congressional elections of 1836 Downing was a delegate for the Florida Territory to Congress in Washington DC chosen, where he replaced Joseph M. White on March 4, 1837. After a re-election in 1838 he was able to complete two terms 1841 to March 3. After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Downing is no longer have appeared. He died in 1845 in St. Augustine.
