Charles E. Daniel

Charles Ezra Daniel ( born November 11, 1895 in Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia, † September 13, 1964 in Greenville, South Carolina) was an American businessman and politician (Democratic Party), of the state of South Carolina in the U.S. Senate represented.

Charles Daniel was still a small boy when his parents moved away with him in 1898 from Georgia. The family settled in Anderson, South Carolina, where he attended the public schools; 1916 to 1918 he was in the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina is formed. This time was interrupted by his use as a Lieutenant of Infantry in the First World War.

After his retirement from the army in 1919, Daniel to pursue a career as a businessman who was active in numerous industries. He was also a long-time curator of Clemson College and a member of a foundation supporting independent colleges in South Carolina. Later he was one of the founders of the Daniel International Construction Corporation, headquartered in Greenville, which was at times the largest construction companies in the world.

Then began Daniels short political career On September 6, 1954, when he was appointed successor to the five days before the late U.S. Senator Burnet R. Maybank. However, the Congress he served on only until December 23, 1954 of the same year: On this day he resigned from his position already down; as a candidate for the by-election he had not been nominated. Daniel was then worked again as a businessman.
