Charles Emmanuel, Landgrave of Hesse-Rotenburg

Charles Emmanuel of Hesse- Rotenburg ( born June 5, 1746 Langenschwalbach, † March 23, 1812 in Frankfurt am Main ) was Landgrave of Hesse -Rotenburg 1778-1812.

Life

Charles Emmanuel was a son of the Landgrave of Hesse- Rotenburg Constantine and his wife Countess Sophie von Starhemberg. He served 1757-1778 in the Imperial Cuirassier Regiment in Austria as a colonel and was appointed after his farewell to the general.

In 1778 he succeeded his father as ruler of Hesse- Rotenburg. During his reign the occupation by Napoleon in 1806 Hesse-Cassel was held that part of the sovereignty Rotenburger quart was not touched in the time of the Kingdom of Westphalia.

Family

His godfather was King Charles Emmanuel III. of Sardinia ( naming). He married in 1771 to Princess Leopoldine of Liechtenstein ( 1754-1823 ), with whom he had the following children:

  • Victor Amadeus (1779-1834), Landgrave of Hesse -Rotenburg, ∞ (I) 1799 Leopoldina von Fürstenberg- Stühlingen ( † 1806); ∞ ( II) 1812 Elisabeth of Hohenlohe- Langenburg († 1830); ∞ ( III) 1831 Eleonore of Salm- Reifferscheidt Herb home.
  • Clothilde (1787-1869), ∞ 1811 Prince Karl August of Hohenlohe- Bartenstein ( 1788-1844 )

In addition, he had from his extramarital relationship with Lucie Juliane Struve (* 1769 in Kassel) a son, Ernst ( born February 11, 1796 in Rotenburg, † August 25 1875 in light Thal ), which was elevated to Baron von Blumenstein and after his marriage in 1818 with Johanna Caroline Friederike Meyer field ( 1799-1866 ) was the progenitor of this family.
