Charles F. Van Loan
Charles Francis Van Loan (* around 1946 in New Jersey) is an American mathematician and computer scientist who deals with numerical linear algebra, specifically matrix calculations.
Van Loan studied at the University of Michigan with a bachelor 's degree in 1969, her Master's degree in 1970 and his doctorate at Cleve Moler 1973 on singular value decomposition ( Generalized Singular Values with Algorithms and Applications). After post- doctoral research at the University of Manchester, he was a professor at Cornell University in 1975. 1999 to 2006 he stood in front of the computer science faculty. From 1998, he was Ford Professor.
He wrote with Gene Golub, a standard work on matrices computations.
