Charles Frederick Scott

Charles Frederick Scott (* September 7, 1860 in Iola, Allen County, Kansas, † September 18, 1938 in Iola ) was an American politician. Between 1901 and 1907 he represented the eighth and 1907-1911 the second electoral district of the state of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Scott attended the common schools and then studied until 1881 at the University of Kansas. He then worked for a short time in various places in Colorado and in the territories of New Mexico and Arizona. In 1882 he returned to Iola. There he went into the press business and moved the newspaper " Iola Register".

Scott was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1892 and 1896 he was a member of the Senate of Kansas. In the congressional elections of 1900, he was elected the eighth district of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Willis Bailey on March 4, 1901. Since he was confirmed in each case at the next elections, he could represent his constituency until March 3, 1907 Congress. Since 1906 he was a candidate in the second district. In Congress, he took over on March 4, 1907, previously held by Justin De Witt Bowersock mandate. After a re-election he was able to stay for two more terms of office in the House until March 3, 1911. Overall, he graduated from 1901-1911 five contiguous terms. Since 1907 he was chairman of the Agriculture Committee.

In 1911, Scott was one of five American delegates at the International Agricultural Institute at Rome. In 1916 and 1932 he was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions relevant. 1918 and 1928 he competed unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the U.S. Senate. Professionally he worked until his death in 1938 in the newspaper business.
