Charles George Edward Patey

Charles George Edward Patey CMG ( born February 27, 1811 in Chivelstone, Devon, Newton St. Loe † 1881 ) was an admiral of the British Royal Navy.

Life

As the eldest son of the Naval Commander Charles Patey he succeeded his father at the age of 13 years in the Navy and passed through each contract awarded military rank, until he was appointed Admiral of the Royal Navy.

In addition to his distinguished career in the Navy Admiral Patey was also British governor of Lagos and the Gambia (1866-1869), and Governor of Saint Helena ( 1869-1873 ). In recognition of his services he was in 1874, a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George.

Admiral Patey died 1881 in Newton St. Loe, a small village near Bath.
