Charles Goerens

Charles Goerens ( born February 6, 1952 in Ettelbruck) is a politician from Luxembourg.

Life

After school Goerens studied agricultural science. Besides his studies Goerens was politically active and a member of the Luxembourg, liberal Demokratesch party headed Goerens from 1989 to 1994. Goerens gave the presidency of the party in 1994 Lydie Polfer.

Goerens was a member of the European Parliament from 1982 to 1984 as well as 1994 to 1999. Thereafter Goerens was in the government of Jean -Claude Juncker of August 7, 1999 to July 31, 2004 Minister of Defence and Minister of the Environment of Luxembourg. For a few days Goerens was also from 20 July 2004 until 31 July 2004, Foreign Minister of Luxembourg. After the parliamentary elections of Luxembourg from 2004 Goerens lost with the government reshuffle his ministerial post. His successor as Minister of Defence of Luxembourg was Luc Frieden and the successor as foreign minister, Jean Asselborn.

Since 2009 Goerens is again member of the European Parliament.

Activities as an MEP

Goerens is Deputy Chairman of the Delegation to the ACP -EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.

As he is a member of the Development Committee and the Subcommittee on Human Rights. Deputy is Goerens in the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Budget Committee and the Special Committee on organized crime, corruption and money laundering
