Charles Hawley

Charles Hawley ( born June 15, 1792 in Stamford, Connecticut, † February 27, 1866 ) was an American politician. Between 1838 and 1842 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

In 1813 Charles Hawley graduated from Yale College. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. Between 1824 and 1838 he was restructuring judge in the judicial district of Stamford. At the same time he embarked on a political career. Between 1821 and 1829 he was several times delegate in the House of Representatives from Connecticut; 1830 to 1837 he was also several times in the State Senate. Mid-1830s he joined the Whig Party was founded at that time.

In 1838, Hawley was elected to the site of William W. Ellsworth as Vice Governor of Connecticut. This post he held 1838-1842. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In December 1839 he participated in Harrisburg as a delegate at the national convention of the Whigs. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he is no longer politically have appeared. He died on February 27, 1866 in Stamford.
