Charles-Hubert Gervais

Charles -Hubert Gervais ( born February 19, 1671 at Paris; † January 15, 1744 ) was a French conductor and composer.

He was the son of Hubert Gervais, a valet of the Duke of Orléans. He received his education from the musicians of the court orchestra of the Duke. He had the luck to be, friend and music teacher from the son of the Duke Philippe II of Orléans, the future Regent of France. He was promoted to Vice-Kapellmeister of the " Chapelle Royale " in 1722. Here he worked until his death.

Works

He created some cantatas and numerous " Grands Motets " and " Petits Motets ", the typical motets in the French style. He also composed several works for the stage and arias.

  • "Suite d' Armide ou Jérusalem delivree " (Hilaire -Bernard Baron de Longepierre ) Tragédie en musique in five acts prologue ( to 1704 in Fontainebleau ) (together with Philip II of Orléans )
  • " Hypermestra " (Joseph de La Font ) Tragédie en musique prologue in 5 acts ( 1716 Paris, Opera )
  • " Les Amours de pro tea " (Joseph de La Font ), ballet Prologue Act 3 (1720 Paris, Opera )
