Charles I, Duke of Bourbon

Charles I de Bourbon ( * 1401, † December 4, 1456 at the Palais du Bourbon at Moulins ) was from 1434 to 1456 Duke of Bourbon and Auvergne. He was the son of Duke jeans I of Bourbon and Marie de Berry, Duchess of Auvergne and Countess of Montpensier.

Life

When Count of Clermont -en- Beauvaisis him fell after the capture of his father at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the task of managing its possession. As Duke of Bourbon and Grand Chamberlain of France, both from 1434, he opposed the king's claim to power. As an opponent of the army reform of 1439 and in competition with the Constable de Richemont in 1440, he supported the Praguerie, but was quickly forced to the peace of the King. In his later years, Charles devoted himself to the skilful management of his lands and founded in Moulins, a magnificent royal household.
