Charles III, Prince of Monaco

Charles III. (actually Charles Grimaldi, December 8th, 1818 *, † September 10, 1889 ) was from 1856 until his death reigning prince of Monaco.

Journey

Charles Grimaldi was born on December 8, the son of Florestan I of Monaco and his wife Maria Caroline Gibert de Lametz. He married on September 28, 1846 Antoinette de Merode - Westerloo, who gave him their son Albert. After the death of his father Charles in 1856 succeeded to the throne of Monaco. He died on September 10, 1889, his son Albert I. succeeded him on the throne.

During his reign, the casino gained its fame continues to this day. The district Monte Carlo, where the casino is located, is by Charles III. named.
