Charles J. Colgan

Charles J. Colgan ( born September 25, 1926 in Frostburg, Maryland) is an American businessman and politician (Democratic Party). Since 1976 he has been a senator in the Senate of Virginia, representing the 29th district there.

Education and work

As Colgan was five years old, his parents died. His three siblings and he were separated and distributed in the relationship. Colgan and his younger brother were raised on the farm of her grandparents, although they have been hit hard by the Great Depression. After Colgan graduated from high school, he joined the Army Air Corps. He served during the Second World War and later belonged to the Air Force Reserve on. Colgan now worked for twelve years as a pilot in commercial air transport. In 1965 he founded and 16 shareholders the Colgan Airways Corporation with headquarters and main base at Manassas Airport, Virginia. In 1986 the company was sold to President Airlines. After the collapse of President Airlines in 1991 Charles J. Colgan and his son Mike Colgan began with only one aircraft rebuilding of Colgan Air in 2007 acquired the Pinnacle Airlines Corp.. the regional airline. After Pinnacle filing for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 in April 2012, the operations of Colgan Air on September 5, 2012, set.

Colgan is a widow since January 2001. From 52 years of marriage eight children were born. Colgan 1980 was inducted into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame.

Political career

In the early 1970s, Colgan began to become active in public service. In 1971 he was elected to the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. During his time there he practiced a year out, the Office of the Chairman. In 1975 his first election to the Senate of Virginia. Colgan has since been able to decide any Senate choice for themselves. From 2008 to 2012, he served as President Pro Tempore of the Senate.
