Charles Jerome Hopkins

Charles Jerome Hopkins ( born April 4, 1836 in Burlington / Vermont, † November 4, 1898 in Athenia, New Jersey) was an American composer, music teacher and sponsors.

Hopkins studied medicine, then music and became a music teacher. In 1856 he founded in New York City, the American Music Association, 1865 Orpheon Free Music Schools and 1868 a music magazine. Of his more than seven hundred works his two operas, a symphony, composed of three choirs, two organs, orchestra, harp and Kantor Easter Vespers and the imagination for five pianos are particularly noteworthy. In addition, he published several collections of organ music and song books.
