Charles Kingsley

Charles Kingsley ( born July 12, 1819 in Holne, Devon, † January 23, 1875 in Eversley, Hampshire ) was an English Anglican clergyman, theologian and writer. He was one of the most influential figures of the so-called " Christian Socialism ".

Life

Charles Kingsley was the son of the cleric Charles Kingsley ( 1782-1860 ). At first, he was educated at home and then studied under Derwent Coleridge (1800-1883) at the Grammar School of Helston. From 1836 he attended the King's College London and moved in 1838 to the Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he graduated as a Bachelor of Arts (BA ) made ​​in 1842.

From July 1842 to May 1844 was Kingsley canons of Eversley. From May 1844 until his death he was the Reverend of the church. In 1844 he married. From 1848 to 1849 he was professor of English literature at Queens College in London, the place but had to retire due to health problems.

Work
