Charles, Landgrave of Hesse-Wanfried

Karl ( Carl ) of Hesse- Wanfried (* July 19, 1649 at Castle Rock Rhine; † March 3, 1711 in Langenschwalbach ) was Landgrave of Hesse - Wanfried. He was the second son of the Landgrave Ernst von Hessen- Rhein rock -Rotenburg and Maria Eleonore of Solms - Lich.

Life

When Karl 1676 the former part - Hesse- Eschwege received from Hessen- Rhein rock -Rotenburg by inheritance disputes in the " Rotenburg Quart ", he moved to Wanfried, thus founding the Catholic Hessen- Wanfried. He built the castle Wanfrieder to his residence because the residence castle in Eschwege was pledged since 1667 to Brunswick- Bevern.

Charles was married in first marriage to Sophie Magdalene, a daughter of Count Adolf von Salm- Reifferscheid Erich and his wife Magdalene. Sophie Magdalene died in 1675 on a trip to Venice. Karl married later, on June 4, 1678, Alexandrine Juliane, daughter of Count Enrico of Leiningen- Dabo and widow of the Landgrave George III. of Hesse- Itter - Vöhl. She died on 19 April 1703 and was buried in the family vault in the Hülfensberg in Wanfried.

Death and heirs

Charles died in 1711 and was succeeded by his son William as Landgrave of Hesse - Wanfried. After his death in 1731 was succeeded by his half-brother, Christian, who died childless in 1755, and thus the well-founded by the father Hessen- Wanfried ended.
