Charles Lebouc

Charles -Joseph Lebouc ( born December 22, 1822 in Besançon; † 6 March 1893, in Hyères) was a French cellist.

Lebouc studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he got into harmony in 1842 as a student of Auguste -Joseph Franchomme the first prize in cello and 1844 as a student of Jacques Fromental Halévy first prize. From 1844 to 1848 he was a cellist in the orchestra of the Paris Opera, after which he was until 1884 a member of the Societe des Concerts de Conservatoire.

In addition Lebouc was professor of cello at the Conservatoire de Paris. As a chamber musician he organized in his salon concerts ( Soirées de Musique Classique ), where musicians such as the pianist Louis Diémer and violinist Antoine Barthélémy Taudou participated and in which works were out for example by Franz Schubert and Anton Reicha. He founded a group of friends of the composer George Onslow, of his String Quartet opus dedicated to him 75. On the occasion of a carnival concert con Lebouc 1886 Saint- Saens ' Carnival of the Animals was premiered.

Lebouc composed some chamber works, including pieces for cello and piano and string quartets. He has also written a cello method (method complete practique et de violoncello ).
