Charles Legeyt Fortescue

Charles LeGeyt Fortescue ( born November 9, 1876 in York Factory ( Manitoba ), Canada, † December 4, 1936 in Pittsburgh) was a Canadian electrical engineer. He developed the method of symmetrical components applied in the electric power generation and three-phase systems ( multi-phase systems ).

He acquired his first education in England. He graduated in 1898 at Queen 's University ( Kingston) in Electrical Engineering and then began at Westinghouse Electric in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1901 he went into the transformers development, and worked on problems that occurred at high voltage. In 1913 he published in AIEE The Application of a Theorem of Electrostatics to Insulator problem.
