Charles-Louis-Étienne Nuitter

Charles -Louis -Etienne Nuitter (actually Truinet, born April 24, 1828 in Paris, † February 24, 1899 ibid ) was a French librettist, translator and archivist.

A lawyer, devoted himself from 1861 onwards, together with Théodore de Lajarte the archive of the sources in the possession of the Paris Opera, and made them available to the public. 1875 archive and library were housed in the Palais Garnier.

He also wrote about sixty ballet scenarios and librettos for composers such as Jacques Offenbach, Herve, Leo Delibes, Édouard Lalo, Charles Lecocq, Isidore and Ernest Guiraud Legouix. As a translator, he lent his hand in France, particularly to the spread of the operas of Wagner. Even Verdi reprized his performance as a translator. In addition to these contemporary works he also translated operas of Weber, Bellini and Mozart.
