Charles Louis, Hereditary Prince of Baden

Karl Ludwig ( born February 14, 1755 in Karlsruhe, † December 16, 1801 in Arboga, Sweden) was Hereditary Prince of Baden. Since he died before his father, Karl Friedrich of Baden, he never came to the government. He became the father of Europe Through the marriage of his daughters with crowned heads.

Life

Karl Ludwig was the eldest son of Margrave Karl Friedrich of Baden (1728-1811) and Karoline Luise of Hesse- Darmstadt (1723-1783), the daughter of Landgrave Ludwig VIII of Hesse- Darmstadt. Karl Ludwig is described as obese and sickly. Karl Ludwig was life in the shadow of his father. However, since 1773, he participated in the meetings of the Privy Council in Karlsruhe. In 1795 he became General - Feldzeugmeister of the Swabian kingdom circle. After the wedding of his daughter Louise with the Russian heir to the throne Alexander he received the rank of general of the Russian infantry.

1801 visited Karl Ludwig and Amalie her daughter Louise, who was Russian and Elisabeth Alexeyevna Zarin now. On the way home from Russia, he also visited his daughter Friederike, the Queen of Sweden. The return trip to Germany was begun on 15 December of Gripsholm Castle, where shortly before Arboga slipped the travel cart and tipped. Karl Ludwig suffered a stroke. He was taken to Arboga, where he died after twelve hours of unconsciousness on 16 December. On January 17, 1802 buried in the Riddarholmskyrkan in Stockholm. In the Castle Church in Pforzheim only his heart was buried.

Marriage and issue

Karl Ludwig married on July 15, 1774 in Darmstadt, his cousin Amalie of Hesse- Darmstadt ( born June 20, 1754 † July 21, 1832 ), the daughter of Landgrave Ludwig IX. of Hesse- Darmstadt. From this marriage the following children were born:
