Charles McLean Andrews

Charles McLean Andrews ( born February 22, 1863 in Wethersfield, Connecticut; † September 9, 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut) was an American historian and university professor.

Biography

After school, he studied at Trinity College in Hartford and graduated in 1884 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA ) from. After a subsequent post-graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins University, which he finished in 1889 with a Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D.), he accepted an appointment as a professor at Bryn Mawr College, founded in 1885.

After he taught until 1907 at Bryn Mawr College, he was 1907-1910 Professor at Johns Hopkins University. Subsequently, he was from 1910 until his retirement in 1931 professor of American history at Yale University.

Andrews who is a member of Phi Beta Kappa was, was also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Royal Historical Society, and the American Philosophical Society. In addition, he served 1924-1925 as President of the American Historical Association.
