Charles Patin

Charles Patin (* February 23, 1633 in Paris, † October 10, 1693 ) was a French physician and numismatist.

Life

Charles Patin was the son of the physician Guy Patin. He studied, after he had become a lawyer, medicine. Since he was pursued from previously unexplained reasons of Colbert, he left France and traveled through Germany and Italy. Finally he settled in Padua, where he first held a chair of medicine and for surgery. He was a member of the Accademia dei Ricovrati and the Leopoldina.

Godmother worked intensively with numismatics and archeology and publications include the following works: Familiae Romanae ex antiquuis numismatibus (Paris 1665), Introduction à l' histoire par la connaissance of médailles (Paris 1665), an often again aufgelegtes work entitled Histoire des médailles, Imperatorum Romanorum NUMISMATA (Strasbourg 1671), Thesaurus numismatum e museo Patini (Amsterdam 1672), Relations de voyages (Basel 1673 ), Lyceum Patavinum ( Padua 1681).

Charles Patin married Madeleine, born HomaNet, with whom he had two daughters: Charlotte -Catherine and Gabrielle - Charlotte.
