Charles Spencer, 3rd Duke of Marlborough

Charles Spencer, 3rd Duke of Marlborough KG, PC ( born November 22, 1706, the † October 20, 1758 ) was a British nobleman and politician ( Lord Privy Seal ).

Life

Charles Spencer was the second son of Charles Spencer, 3rd Earl of Sunderland, and his second wife Lady Anne Churchill, the second daughter of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. The father died in 1722, whereupon his eldest brother, Robert, the 4th Earl of Sunderland was. As this 1729 also died, the title passed to his father Charles and he became the 5th Earl of Sunderland.

Died in 1733 his aunt Henrietta Churchill, 2nd Duchess of Marlborough, after which their dukedom from a special permit also went over to him. The 5th Earl of Sunderland was at the same time 3rd Duke of Marlborough. Titles remain since then integrated in the hands of his successors.

The new Duke moved a little later to Blenheim Palace at Woodstock in Oxfordshire and transferred the sunderlandschen goods to his younger brother John, the father of the first Earl Spencer.

1755 he served as Lord Privy Seal. Spencer was one of the founders of the Foundling Hospital, an institution that served primarily the inclusion of Findel and orphans and infants poor, often single mothers who could not take care of the livelihood of their offspring.
