Charles van Lerberghe

Charles van Lerberghe ( born October 21, 1861 in Ghent, † October 26th 1907 in Brussels) was a Flemish writer and is assigned to the symbolism.

Life and work

Lerberghe came from a humble family and became an orphan at an early stage. Désiré van den Hove, his guardian and uncle of the writer Maurice Maeterlinck inspired him early modern art and literature.

At age six, came Lerberghe 1867 at the Institute Saint- Amand and attended this school until 1870. In August this year he moved to the Collège Sainte -Barbe.

Charles van Lerberghe died five days after his 46th birthday in Brussels and found his final resting place.
