Charles Wyplosz

Charles Wyplosz André ( born September 5, 1947 in Vichy, Allier ) is a French economist and university professor.

Career, teaching and research

Wyplosz studied engineering and then to 1970 statistics from the École Centrale Paris, before he went to Harvard University for Ph.D. studies in economics. After graduating in 1978, he transferred to Insead, where he was appointed a full professor later. In 1986 he went to the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, 1995, he accepted a position at the University of Geneva and was a professor of economics at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

The focus of the work Wyploszs are macroeconomics, fiscal policy and economic transition, this main focus of the European Union and the transformation of the economic system in formerly communist countries. Especially in the wake of the financial crisis from 2007 he also focused on the examination of financial crises and the European monetary integration.

As a consultant Wyplosz worked among others for the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the United Nations.

He is a Knight of the Legion of Honour.
