Charleston County, South Carolina

Charleston County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Charleston.

Geography

The County is located in the southwest of South Carolina, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​3517 square kilometers, of which 1139 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Berkeley County, Georgetown County, Colleton County and Dorchester County.

History

Charleston County was formed in 1769 from parts of Berkeley County and Colleton County. It was named after King Charles II of England.
