Charlie Burchill

Charlie Burchill ( born November 27, 1959 in Glasgow, Scotland when Charles Burchill ) is a Scottish musician and composer. He is a founder member of the 1978 Scottish rock band Simple Minds. He plays guitar, keyboard, saxophone and violin. Since 1998, he also acts as producer for Simple Minds albums.

Biography

Charlie Burchill went along with Jim Kerr and Brian McGee on the Holyrood RC ( Roman Catholic ) Secondary School in Glasgow. He and his four- year older brother Jamie got in 1973/74 guitars donated and began to learn guitar together. While Jamie stopped playing the guitar, Charlie began to play in a school band.

1975-1976 he played with Jim Kerr, Brian McGee and others in the beginner band Biba -Rom! . In 1977 he founded with Jim Kerr, Brian McGee and John Milarky the punk band Johnny And The Self Abusers. After half a year, this band broke up, to make a fresh start in 1978 under the name Simple Minds. After some musicians had come and gone, at the end of the formation took place in 1978 along with Charlie Burchill, Jim Kerr, Brian McGee, Derek Forbes and Michael MacNeil, who then also grossed records.

In the first three albums of the band Burchill played along with the guitar yet violin and saxophone. With the 1982 and 1984 following albums New Gold Dream and Sparkle In The Rain guitar playing became more and more into the foreground of the band.

1988 Burchill worked on the project Aurora Borealis, an instrumental album, but this was postponed because of the Street Fighting Years album of the band and later not pursued.

Since then, Mick MacNeil had left the band in 1989, Burchill took over the studio productions more and more the role of keyboardist.

With the album Neapolis 1998 Charlie Burchill began to work as a producer and produced several more Simple Minds albums.

Charlie Burchill 2002 participated in the production Non Zero Sumness the Italian dance and electro band Planet Funk, whose members participated in the production of Simple Minds album Cry in the same year, in part.

Burchill has survived numerous changes in the composition of the band celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008 Simple Minds anniversary, and is left with Jim Kerr as a founding member.

Commitment

As part of his music with Simple Minds continued to Burchill again and again for the end of hunger in Africa (Live Aid concert ), apartheid ( Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert), peace in Northern Ireland etc.. Well-known songs are Mandela Day Biko and Belfast Child.

Others

Charlie Burchill is a Catholic and an avid football fan supporter of Glasgow Celtic Football Club a known his hometown of his followers recruited from the traditionally Catholic population.

He is a vegetarian, lived for many years in Dublin and now lives in Rome.
