Charlie Dixon (musician)

Charles Edward ( Charlie ) Dixon (* 1900, † December 6, 1940 ) was an American banjo player.

Dixon first played in the orchestra of Sam Wooding and then joined the orchestra of Fletcher Henderson later. In 1922 he took part in a performance of Henderson's orchestra in the "Club Alabam " in New York. Between 1923-1928, he played in various ensembles led by Henderson and was regarded as an excellent arranger from the early days of swing style; he was instrumental in developing the Arrangierstils Swing titles for big bands.

With the orchestra Henderson created many recordings of his arrangements, under which protrude Sugar Foot Stomp, The Stampede and Chick Webb's Harlem Congo. For the Orchestra Chick Webb, in which he played later, arranged Dixon among others That Naughty Waltz.
