Charlie Hickcox

Charles Buchanan "Charlie" Hickcox ( born February 6, 1947 in Phoenix, Arizona, † June 15, 2010 in San Diego, California ) was an American swimmer.

Early in his career, he won only one national title over the 400 m distance situation. Therefore, it was surprising that the back float Hickcox in Mexico about 200 m and 400 m Individual Medley won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in 1968. He also was with the 4 × 100 m medley relay the American Olympic champion. About 100 m backstroke, he won the silver medal.

The following year he resigned from competitive sports and was a TV commentator and coach. In 1976 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.

The highlight of his career reached Hickcox 1967-1968 as he swam 8 world records within 16 months. During this time he coached at Indiana University under coach James Counsilman.
