Charlotte Checkers (2010–)

The Charlotte Checkers are an American ice hockey franchise from Charlotte, North Carolina. It plays since the 2010/11 season in the American Hockey League.

History

The company MAK Hockey, LLC, acquired in February 2010, the rights to financially unprofitable for some time AHL franchise in the Albany River Rats in Albany, New York, owned by Capital Distric Sports, Inc. and moved the team to Charlotte, North Carolina to where they participate in the 2010/11 season under the name Charlotte Checkers game on operation of the AHL. Prior to MAK Hockey already owned an eponymous team in the ECHL, but whose license you gave up after purchase of the AHL franchises. Charlotte is also the successor of Albany as a farm team also located in North Carolina NHL teams of the Carolina Hurricanes.
