Life

She was born Charlotte Mitchell in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of five children. Your interest in documentaries awoke when you visit the Wayne State University in the fifties. She specialized early on the documentation of the life and work of artists.

One of her early works was the documentation of Robert Frost. A Lover's Quarrel with the World of 1963 by winning the Oscars turned out that they had chosen the right field. This was followed by documentaries about Arshile Gorky, Ella Fitzgerald ( "Something to Live For " ), Willem de Kooning, Isamu Noguchi and Toru Takemitsu.

Charlotte Zwerin was a master of the " cinéma vérité " films with extreme realism. My film about the Rolling Stones concert in Altamont, " Gimme Shelter" was known for the representation of a dramatic scene: When the 18 -year-old Meredith Hunter by a member of the Hells Angels who worked on the concert as security, stabbed to death on camera been. One of their famous late works was produced by Clint Eastwood and Bruce Ricker film Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser, a portrait of the loaded with all sorts of problems pianist and composer.

She was married to the jazz musician and critic Mike Zwerin.

Charlotte Zwerin died on 22 January 2004 in New York of lung cancer.
