Charlotteville

Region

Charlottesville is a small village in the northeast of the Caribbean island of Tobago. It is the largest village in the Parish of Saint John.

The place

Charlottesville is located on the Man O'War Bay called Bay on the Caribbean. The Windward Road connects the village to the south Speyside and then go to Roxborough and the island's capital, Scarborough. Buses run regularly on this route. The completed in 2007 Hermitage Road connects the village with the westerly L'Anse Fourmi.

Charlottesville focuses on the eastern side of the bay, the houses here pull himself up the hill. A sports arena with stands is the center, stand by the police station and public library.

The approximately 950 people live on fishing and tourism. In the resort there are guest houses, restaurants and shops. The eastern part of the bay is heavily used, the road here runs directly on the beach, fishing boats moored in the water, a large pier extending into the bay. The western part of the bay is quiet, here there is a guarded beach with showers and toilets, even further west bordering the bungalows a tourist resort on the beach.

Environment

In the East Bay, a path leads over a hill to Pirates Bay, which has one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Previously it was a haven for pirates, now anchor here many boats of Yacht tourists.

To the west of the bay once stood Fort Campbelton, today recalled a memorial park with two cannons and provides excellent views of the city.

On the road to Speyside a path branches off to Flagstaff Hill from which was formerly used by the military and gives a good view of the island of St. Giles - here come Caribbean and the Atlantic together.
