Charmaine Crooks

Charmaine Crooks ( born August 8, 1962 in Mandeville, Manchester Parish ) is a retired Canadian sprinter and middle distance runner of Jamaican origin.

First they launched over 400 m. In 1980 she became the Pan American junior champion. The Olympic boycott their country prevented a start at the Olympic Games in Moscow. The alternatively aligned Liberty Bell Classic she finished second. In 1982, she won at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane with the Canadian team in the 4 x 400 - meter relay.

In 1983 they reached at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki the semi-finals and came up with the Canadian relay to fourth place. Shortly thereafter, she managed the victory at the Pan American Games in Caracas, her biggest single success.

The following year she was at the Olympics in Los Angeles Seventh and won in the 4 x 400 meters relay silver along with Jillian Richardson, Molly Killingbeck, and Marita Payne. At the IAAF World Indoor Games in Paris in 1985 was followed by a bronze medal in the individual competition, and in 1986 she succeeded with the Canadian team to defend the title at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.

At the 1987 World Championships in Rome and at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul she came into the semi-finals. With the team, she was again fourth. At the finals of the Olympic Games, the Canadian quartet did not reach the target.

In 1990 she improved the Canadian record in the 800 -meter run at 1:58,52 min. About the same distance it was established in 1991 at the Fifth World Indoor Athletics Championships in Seville and arrived at the world championships in Tokyo in the semifinal. In the relay, they finished with the Canadian team in sixth place. Also at the 1992 Olympics, they penetrated into the semifinals. With the season they finished fourth.

Her last major success was the silver medal over 800 meters at the Commonwealth Games in 1994 in Victoria. At the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg and in 1997 she divorced in Seville as well as from the advance in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Eight times she was Canadian champion in the 400 m and 800 m twice over.

In 1994, she founded the of her still -led company NGU Consultants, the sports marketing and management, and business consulting offers. She was elected to the Athletes' Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1996. From 2000 to 2004 she was a member of the IOC. She serves on the board of the Canadian Olympic Committee and is currently Vice President of the World Olympians Association.
