Charnett Moffett
Charnett Moffett ( born June 10, 1967 in New York City ) is an American jazz bassist.
Moffett is the son of Charles Moffett, who became known as a member of Ornette Coleman Trio and head of the Moffett Family Band. In 1974, he worked first time on a recording of the Moffett Family Band and participated in the following year on a tour of Japan. He attended the Fiorello H. La Guardia High School for the Music and Arts in New York City, the Mannes College of Music, and finally the Juilliard School of Music. He was in 1983 a member of the Wynton Marsalis Quintet and later the group Black Codes ( From the Underground). During the period he also worked with Stanley Jordan, the Manhattan Jazz Quintet and Tony Williams.
At Blue Note Records released in 1987 Beauty Within with his father Charles Moffett and his brother Codaryl Moffett as a drummer, Mondre Moffett on trumpet, Kenny Garrett alto saxophonist and a guitarist Stanley Jordan, 1988 Net Man with Michael Brecker, Al Foster, Kenny Drew Jr. and Stanley Jordan and 1989 Nettwork.
With Keshavan Maslaks Loved by Millions he joined in 1991 at the Moers Festival. In 1993, he played a Rhythm & Blood, a blend of jazz and pop, with whom he had great success in Japan. In 1994 and 1997, Planet Home Still Life with Rachel Z and Cindy Blackman. In the recording Acoustic Trio of 1997 Moffett presented as an innovative player on the acoustic bass.
In addition, in the 1990s, Moffett & Sons originated with his father Charles and with the participation of pianist James Williams, saxophonist David Sánchez, Joshua Redman and Bill Pierce and trumpeter Wallace Roney and Philip Harper, as well as under the collective name of General Music Project three albums with Miles Davis, alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett, pianist Geri Allen and Cyrus Chestnut and his father Charles.
Appeared in 2001 Mr. J. P. - In memory of Jaco Pastorius - with Kenny Garrett, pianist Carlos McKinney, and drummer Louis Hayes, 2004 For the Love of Peace with his brothers Codaryl " Cody " and Mondre and pianist Scott Brown.
Besides being a member of McCoy Tyner Moffett band on their album Land of the Giants (2003) he played. He worked over the years with numerous renowned artists such as Art Blakey, David Benoit, Anita Baker, Harry Connick Jr., Ornette Coleman, Kevin Eubanks, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Stanley Jordan, Kenny Kirkland, Joachim Kühn, Frank Lowe, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Bette Midler, Mulgrew Miller, Courtney Pine, Dianne Reeves, Wallace Roney, Pharoah Sanders, Arturo Sandoval, Sonny Sharrock, David Sanborn, McCoy Tyner, Sadao Watanabe and Tony Williams and participated in several film music with.
