Charolles

Charolles is a commune with 2781 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire, in Burgundy; it is the administrative seat of the arrondissement and canton of Charolles Charolles. It is through influence from the river Arconce and lies at the confluence of its tributary Semence.

History

Etymologically, Charolais from the Celtic Kadrigel, Fortress in the water. Charolles was the county town of Charolais (or Charollais ), since the area was separated from the county of Chalon -sur -Saône.
