Charter of Swiss Official Statistics

The Charter of official statistics is a charter, which was adopted in May 2002 by the statistical offices and services in Switzerland. The Charter obliges agencies that deal with public statistics, and their employees, to a code of professional conduct. In the code of ethics among other relevance, quality and credibility of published statistical information is cited as the main objectives of public statistics.

2007 and 2012, the Charter has been revised. The current charter is consistent with the Code of Conduct of the European statistics. It comprises a preamble and 21 principles, which are explained and clarified by indicators. The appendix contains the scope of the Charter, organizational issues in relation to the Charter, the mission of the Ethics Council of the Switzerland government statistics and a comparison between the Charter and the Code of Conduct of the European statistics.
