Château d'Arcelot

The Arcelot Castle (French Château d' Arcelot ) is in the French community Arceau, in the canton of Mirebeau sur Beza of the Côte-d'Or department, which belongs to the Burgundy region.

The castle was classified first on 22 September 1948 as a monument historique and are thus protected monument. On 30 April 1999 the classification was extended to the park. The property is privately owned.

History

The origins of the castle date back to the year 1217. From this time the chapel, part of the castle dates. The first work on the castle in its present form were carried out under Philibert I of Verchère, 1711-1720. It was a building with two pavilions. His grandson Philibert II, Marquis of Arcelot, at the time of the Council of Burgundy Parlements let the present castle by the architect Thomas Dumorey 1761-1764 build. It was the first castle in neo -classical style in Burgundy. The castle was handed down in a direct line until 1870. Guillaume Verchère This year died without descendants. Architecture

A special feature of the castle is the large living room which is fully equipped with marble and colored stucco, a rarity in Burgundy.

Park and garden

Behind the castle is one of the largest parks in Burgundy. The 45-hectare park created in the style of an English garden in part, was designed by the landscape architect Jean -Marie Morel and is one of the few that survived the designer. Another special feature is the 7 -acre pond.
