Château de Monte-Cristo

The Castle of Monte Cristo was built according to the plans of the architect Hippolyte Durand 1844-1847 for Alexandre Dumas in Port- Marly ( Yvelines). Built on a small island, it should serve the writer as a workplace and as a refuge. The name is based on Dumas ' novel The Count of Monte Cristo. Alexandre Dumas, however, had to sell in 1848 the castle. Neglected the castle in the 1960s was to make a building project space. However, Georges Poisson successfully advocated for the preservation of the castle.

Since 1975 the castle is a listed building.
